About the Midway Sleep Lab
Midway Sleep Lab is a premiere sleep center in the city of Los Angeles that is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Treating sleep-disorders patients for over 20 years, Dr. Avi Ishaaya M.D., F.C.C.P., F.A.A.S.M., F.A.C.G.S., M.A.C.G.S., a board-certified physician in Pulmonary, Sleep, Internal and Geriatrics medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA School of Medicine, founded Midway Sleep Lab in 2004 to provide patients a state-of-the-art, elegant, yet, comfortable, fully accredited sleep center in the Miracle Mile/Fairfax District of Los Angeles. Dr. Avi Ishaaya and his healthcare team are dedicated to help patients suffering from sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, snoring, and parasomnia. At Midway sleep lab, our goal is to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from untreated sleep disorders, and provide patients a personalized, convenient, and attainable diagnosis and solution to their medical concerns.
As a full-service sleep center, we offer both attended and unattended sleep and titration studies which are interpreted by our board-certified sleep physicians. Additionally, our patients can obtain all their treatment devices including PAP Therapy devices and supplies from us.
Tests Performed At Our Center
(Attended Sleep Studies Performed at our Sleep Center):
An overnight attended sleep study measuring brain waves, heart rate and rhythm, breathing rate, blood oxygen level, eye movements, snoring, leg movements, and jaw or chin movements. It is used to help detect a variety of sleep disorders. It is most often used to determine if a patient has a sleep related breathing disorder such as sleep apnea.
CPAP Titration Study
An overnight attended sleep study performed to determine the optimal pressure needed for a CPAP device used in the treatment of sleep apnea.
Polysomnography with CPAP Titration (50/50 or Split Study)
An overnight study which starts as a PSG study and then continues to a titration study.
BiPAP Titration Study
An overnight attended sleep study performed to determine the optimal pressure for treatment of OSA or Central Sleep Apnea using Bi-Level PAP titration.
Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
An attended daytime study used to assess the degree of daytime sleepiness and patterns of sleep. This test is mainly used to find out if a patient is suffering from narcolepsy. It charts how quickly a patient falls asleep during quiet daytime situations, and how fast the patient enters the stage of REM sleep.
Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)
An attended daytime study performed to evaluate treatment effectiveness in patients suffering from excessive daytime sleepiness by measuring how alert a patient is during the day and whether or not the patient is able to stay awake for a defined period of time.
(Unattended Sleep Study Performed at our Patients’ Homes):
Home Sleep Test
An overnight home sleep test used to diagnose sleep apnea. Our award-winning home sleep test device is small, convenient and simple to use. A home sleep test is as reliable as an in-lab sleep test and is covered by most insurance companies including Medicare. Due to some medical conditions, a home sleep test may not be appropriate for all patients.
Treatment and Management of Sleep Apnea
Patients diagnosed with sleep apnea can receive their treatment devices and replacement supplies at our Center. The “gold standard” and most common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is a PAP device like the CPAP, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or the newer APAP, Automatic Positive Airway Pressure. Both APAP and CPAP deliver air pressure that holds the airway open and prevents obstruction by the tongue or soft palate. We provide our patients with the APAP device which automatically adjusts the air pressure each night to maximize sleep quality and resolve obstructive apneas. We continue to monitor our patients’ compliance with treatment on a nightly basis to ensure their success. We provide our patients and their physicians with compliance progress reports on quarterly or on “as needed” basis, and offer replacement parts and supplies.
